There are plenty of intriguing top 10 matchups going on all over the state this weekend, making Week 9 one of the best schedule of games the 2011 season has to offer. Here's a look at some of the best contests this weekend.
No. 3 Moeller (7-1) at No. 4 St. Edward (6-2)
You can call this one the "Rebound Game" as both teams look to get on track after close losses last week. St. Edward is reeling after consecutive losses and its subsequent fall out of the POWERADE FAB 50. The Eagles' offense has been erratic at best and the team's strength, its offensive line, has struggled to open enough holes in the running game. They get no reprieve this weekend with No. 3 Moeller in the house. The Cards suffered their first loss last week on a last-second FG by Indianapolis Cathedral. They will look to bounce back and bury the defending state champs.
Pick: Moeller — St. Edward's offense doesn't scare anyone, Moeller's does.
No. 2 St. Xavier (6-2) at No. 9 St. Ignatius (7-1)
Ignatius found its way back into the top 10 on the heels of a five-game win streak. The defense has been the catalyst to the turnaround as the Wildcats have held three opponents to single digits during the stretch. Xavier did what no other team in Ohio has been able to do in two years: defeat St. Edward. The Bombers' offense has looked good in recent weeks and the team appears ready for a deep playoff run.
Pick: St. Xavier — Conor Hundley is coming off a huge 161-yard, two-TD performance last week. He'll be good in this one, too.
Upper Arlington (7-1) at No. 10 Hilliard Davidson (7-0)
Upper Arlington will look to avenge last year's 24-point loss in this meeting of Ohio Capital Conference Central foes. Davidson's defense has recorded four shutouts and has yet to allow double digits to an opponent.
Pick: Davidson. UA will find it tough scoring on this defense.
Ursuline (2-6) at Cardinal Mooney (5-2)
Huge roster changes due to graduation and an extremely difficult schedule has the Division V champs in unfamiliar territory. Mooney on the other hand has rung up a 5-2 mark and is looking like a contender for the D-III crown.
