Mentor's offense carries Cards to No. 6 in hoop rankings

January, 31, 2012
Either we're getting pretty good at this rankings thing or the state's top teams have really separated themselves from the pack. Whatever the case may be, the top five teams remained intact and there was minimal movement in the bottom five. The biggest mover was Mentor, which boasts a 13-1 mark buoyed by a relentless offensive attack that produces 92 points a contest. The Cards moved up three notches to No. 6. Whitmer vacated that spot and tumbled four spots after falling to St. John's (Toledo). Northland continues to hold down the top spot but Dunbar and La Salle are hot on the Vikings' trail. Also look out for bubble teams St. Ignatius, which defeated previously unbeaten Pickerington Central, and undefeated Walnut Ridge.

Here's a look at the top three teams:
1. Northland (13-1) — last week No. 1
2. Dunbar (15-0) — last week No. 2
3. La Salle (16-1) — last week No. 3
