Top 3 shuffle spots in boys' hoop rankings

By David Auguste

For the first time this winter, Taft doesn't occupy the No. 1 spot in the weekly hoop rankings. Four consecutive losses to teams outside the Buckeye State dropped Taft to No. 3 and left the top two spots available for Northland and Moeller. Northland appears to have its championship swagger back, beating each of its first four opponents by double figures. Moeller beat a solid Middletown team to move up to No. 2 and take over as the top team from Cincy. Shaker Heights is 6-0 and takes top billing in Cleveland, while Garfield Heights and SVSM also had strong weeks. Middletown's loss left the door open for undefeated Whitmer, which checks in at No. 10.

Here's a look at how the Top 3 teams fared last week:

1. Northland -- lost to Huntington Prep, W. Va., 71-62 (last week No. 2)

2. Moeller -- defeated Middletown 55-38 (last week No. 3)

3. Taft -- lost to Huntington Prep, W. Va., 72-53 (last week No. 1)
