High-SchoolPennsylvania: Got Game

Got Game: Shane Ryan

December, 6, 2011
Name: Shane Ryan
School: Haverford School
Sport: Swimming

Got Game: Lost amid all the praise that was heaped on former Hershey star David Nolan last season was Ryan's impressive performance at the Class AAA state meet. Ryan beat Nolan's old state record in the 100 backstroke by 0.04 seconds. But because Ryan finished second to Nolan in the race, his time went largely unnoticed — Nolan won the state title, set a new state record and earned the glory. But now Nolan is at Stanford, and that means Ryan, a senior, has a clear path to win the state crown and earn all of the accolades that come with it.

Got Game: Matt Rambo

October, 4, 2011
Matt RamboRick Tramontana/ESPNHSLa Salle junior attackman Matt Rambo (No. 183, right) is expected to be near the top of the ESPNHS 50 Juniors rankings next week.
Name: Matt Rambo
School: La Salle
Sport: Lacrosse

Got Game: Rambo, the player with the toughest name in Pennsylvania, wowed everyone on the high school lacrosse scene in his freshman season when he scored 78 goals while with Abington. Last season, at La Salle, Rambo took the field against some tougher competition but still managed to rack up 58 goals. Now, as he preps for his junior campaign, the attacker has made his college decision. The U.S. Lacrosse All-American verbally committed to Maryland last week. Hofstra, Virginia, North Carolina and Johns Hopkins were also among the schools he was considering. Rambo also earned first team honors from PhillyLacrosse.com last season.

Got Game: Max Norris

September, 8, 2011
Name: Max Norris

School: Harriton

Sport: Cross Country

Got Game: It looked like Sam Hibbs was going to be the runaway favorite (no pun intended) in Pennsylvania this year, but a closer-than-expected finish at one of the first races of the year appears to have caused a new harrier to emerge. Hibbs won the John Sharp Viking Invitational in an impressive time of 15:29, but just two seconds behind was Norris in an impressive finish of 15:31. Both Hibbs and Norris will undoubtedly go head to head multiple times this season and could develop quite the rivalry as the season progresses.

Got Game: Brendan Nosovitch

August, 30, 2011
Name: Brendan Nosovitch
School: Allentown C.C.
Sport: Football

Got Game: Throw for more than 3,000 yards and 43 touchdowns and the colleges are sure to line up. Sure enough, Nosovitch had suitors from Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland, South Carolina and Virginia, among others. But the senior signal-caller put the debate to rest early, committing to South Carolina in July. Nosovitch also ran for more than 1,600 yards and found the end zone 25 times on the ground last season. He was also named the Gatorade State Player of the Year in Pennsylvania last fall. Check back to this blog for frequent progress of Nosovitch as he is expected to make a run at some passing records this season.

Got Game: Brandon Matthews

August, 26, 2011
Name: Brandon Matthews
School: Pittston Area
Sport: Golf

Got Game: The reigning champ is set to defend his title this season. Matthews, who carded a two-day, 3-under-par 139 at last year’s PIAA state championship, had scarcely a nearby competitor as he cruised to the individual crown. Although others will surely step up and challenge the senior this year, it’s his title for the taking as the golf season gets underway. He also won his district crown by six strokes last fall.

Got Game: Drew Klingenberg

August, 25, 2011
Name: Drew Klingenberg
School: Pine-Richland
Sport: Soccer

Got Game: Back in 2007, Klingenberg’s sister, Megan, graced our cover as one of Pennsylvania’s top girls’ soccer players. Turns out her younger brother isn’t so bad himself. Drew is highly rated as one of the nation’s top soccer players in the Class of 2012. The senior midfielder and Penn State recruit anchored the center of the pitch last season, leading his team into the playoffs. He was also named the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette North Player of the Year last season, and he was named to the "Starting 11" of the top players in Pennsylvania by ESPNHS entering this year.

Got Game: Sam Hibbs

August, 23, 2011
Name: Sam Hibbs
School: Hatboro-Horsham
Sport: Cross Country

Got Game: In a state meet laden with seniors last year, Hibbs emerged as the lone underclassman contender. He finished seventh overall in 16:08 and was the only non-senior to finish in the top 10. A senior this year, Hibbs will be considered the favorite to take top honors and potentially represent Pennsylvania in the national meets. And his presence at the top of the leaderboard should have the Hatters in contention for some team accolades this fall.
