The Gatorade Player of the Year Program honors athletes who meet comprehensive and exacting criteria in high school sports. Candidates are judged on athletic production and impact in the current season. Contenders also must demonstrate high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership. Senior status has no bearing on a candidate’s merit and selections are made independent of PrepVolleyball.com's Senior Aces rankings.

That being said, the state’s top five recruits as ranked by PrepVolleyball.com are sure to enter the 2011-12 Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year conversation at some point. Here they are …

1. Chaparral (Parker, Colo.) outside hitter/setter Nicole Dalton
  • PrepVolleyball Senior Aces rank: No. 6
  • Height: 6-foot-2
  • Club: Front Range
  • College: University of Texas (verbal)
  • John Tawa, publisher of PrepVolleyball.com: "Dalton may stand 6-2 but is as agile as a cheetah. She is one of those rare players who is supremely talented in every single volleyball skill. Dalton takes her lanky frame and covers the backcourt with dexterity and grace. She possesses exceptional ball control skills defensively as well as in serve receive."
2. Fairview (Boulder, Colo.) setter/right-side hitter Nicole Edelman
  • PrepVolleyball Senior Aces rank: No. 38
  • Height: 6-foot
  • Club: Front Range
  • College: University of Colorado (verbal)
  • John Tawa, publisher of PrepVolleyball.com: "Coaches describe 'Eddie' as passionate, hard-nosed and unafraid of any challenge. A four-year high school starter and stat stuffer, Edelman led her team last fall in kills, aces, serving points, assists, digs and solo blocks. Skillful and steady, Eddie, who is a lefty, is an incredible all-around athlete whose intensity, enthusiasm and love of the game leaves everyone wanting more."
3. Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.) middle blocker Janae Hall
  • PrepVolleyball Senior Aces rank: No. 67
  • Height: 6-foot-1
  • Club: Front Range
  • College: University of Kansas (verbal)
  • John Tawa, publisher of PrepVolleyball.com: "A basketball player growing up, Hall started playing volleyball as a high school freshman and has focused on the sport for just one year. An exceptional athlete, the high flying Hall has a ton of yet to be tapped potential."
4. Heritage (Littleton, Colo.) outside hitter Katelyn Driscoll
  • PrepVolleyball Senior Aces rank: No. 92
  • Height: 6-foot-4
  • Club: Colorado Juniors
  • College: University of Colorado (verbal)
  • John Tawa, publisher of PrepVolleyball.com: "A late bloomer with much more room for development, Driscoll has shown she has the skill set to take over a match even against the best junior-level competition. Very long and easily touching over 10-feet, everything Driscoll does is high."
5. Poudre (Fort Collins, Colo.) middle blocker Canace Finley
  • PrepVolleyball Senior Aces rank: No. 95
  • Height: 6-foot-2
  • Club: Norco
  • College: University of Oregon (verbal)
  • John Tawa, publisher of PrepVolleyball.com: "A wonderful athlete, Finley is quick, fast and has a great jump. As fast laterally as anyone in the country, she has the potential to be a dominating middle, especially if she continues growing."
