A dedicated ESPNHS team managed this past fall's Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year selection process, resulting in winners based on the program's three pillars: athletic production and impact in the 2011 season, high academic achievement and exemplary personal character.

THE WINNER: Brian Hart
THE BASICS
School: Phillips Exeter Academy (Exeter, N.H.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Forward
Height: 6-foot-2
THE PILLARS
Athletic achievement: Hart scored 35 goals and passed for 13 assists this past season to lead the Big Red (18-2) to the New England Prep School Athletic Council semifinals. A Boston Globe All-Scholastic and the NEPSAC Class A MVP, he broke the school’s single-season and career records for goals scored.
Academic excellence: Hart has maintained a B average in the classroom.
Exemplary character: Also a hockey standout, he has volunteered locally on behalf of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and a youth skating program.
THE PRAISE
“Brian Hart is an absolute monster, a beast,” said Bill Scott, head coach of rival Phillips Academy Andover (Andover, Mass.). “He’s as good a prep player as I’ve seen in a long time, and I’ve been coaching for 31 years. He’s quick and strong and runs through people, but his skill level is stunningly good.”
THE FUTURE: Hart will attend Harvard University this fall, where he will play hockey.
