Eye on POY: Wyoming boys soccer


The window on the Gatorade State Boys Soccer Player of the Year race is closing, and the search for elite student-athletes is in full swing. The award recognizes not only athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Here are two top candidates who meet the basic award criteria as determined by our ESPNHS team that administers the program’s selection process.

Vitor Nazareth
Senior Midfielder, Laramie High (Laramie, WY)

How he’s played himself into the State POY conversation: First Team All-State in 2010, 2011; Only returning starter from 2011 state finalist.

Wyatt Witty
Senior Forward/Midfielder, Buffalo High (Buffalo, WY)

2012 Assists: 14
2012 Points per game: 2.0
Career goals: 47
Career assists: 39

Academics: A average
Collegiate destination: Laramie County Community College

How he’s played himself into the State POY conversation: Leading scorer in school history; First Team All-State in 2010, 2011; Class 3A Underclassman of the Year in 2011.
