POY Potential: Top Neb. volleyball recruits

October, 26, 2011
The Gatorade Player of the Year Program honors athletes who meet comprehensive and exacting criteria in high school sports. Candidates are judged on athletic production and impact in the current season. Contenders also must demonstrate high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership. Senior status has no bearing on a candidate’s merit and selections are made independent of PrepVolleyball.com's Senior Aces rankings.

That being said, the state’s top senior recruits as ranked by PrepVolleyball.com are sure to enter the 2011-12 Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year conversation at some point. Here they are …

POY Potential: Lauren Sieckmann
USA VolleyballLauren Sieckmann is Nebraska's No. 1 senior recruit.
1. Elkhorn South (Elkhorn, Neb.) setter and 2009-10 Gatorade Nebraska Volleyball Player of the Year Luaren Sieckmann

  • PrepVolleyball Senior Aces rank: No. 51
  • Height: 5-foot-10
  • Club: Nebraska Juniors
  • College: University of Nebraska (verbal)
  • John Tawa, publisher of PrepVolleyball.com: "One of Nebraska’s best prep players since her freshman year, Sieckmann was named Nebraska High School Gatorade Player of the Year in 2009 after leading Marian High School to the Class A state title as a sophomore. A point-scoring attacker and setter as a prep player, look for Sieckmann to be a setter only at the collegiate level. She is a dynamic assist maker with quick feet, great touch and superb location. A winner at the high school and club levels and internationally as a member of the USA Youth National Team, Sieckmann has committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She transferred from Marian to Elkhorn South this year in preparation for an early move into John Cook’s Husker program next spring."
