Wyoming Girls Track AOY: Jerayah Davis


A dedicated ESPNHS team managed the Gatorade State Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year selection process, resulting in winners based on the program's three pillars: athletic production and impact in the 2012 season, high academic achievement and exemplary personal character.

THE WINNER: Jerayah Davis


School: Kelly Walsh (Casper, Wyo.)

Grade: Sophomore

Event(s): Sprints/jumps

Height: 5-foot-9


Athletic achievement: Davis won three individual state championships this spring and led the Trojans to the Class AA state title as a team. She won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.23 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 24.85 and the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, nine and one quarter inches. A two-time First Team All-State selection, Davis was undefeated in both the 100 and the 200 in 2012.

Academic excellence: Davis has maintained a 3.94 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: A devoted member of her church community, she has volunteered locally as a youth track and field coach and a mentor for students with special needs.


“Jerayah Davis is an extremely dedicated athlete who works very hard at all of her events,” said Kelly Walsh head coach Kevin Williams. “She is also a positive role model who takes the time to encourage and support her peers.”

THE FUTURE: Davis will begin her junior year of high school this fall.
