A dedicated ESPNHS team managed the Gatorade State Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year selection process, resulting in winners based on the program's three pillars: athletic production and impact in the 2012 season, high academic achievement and exemplary personal character.

THE WINNER: Madison Reynolds
School: Douglass (Oklahoma City, Okla.)
Athletic achievement: Reynolds won the 400-meter run with a class-record time of 55.05 seconds and captured the 200-meter dash in 25.72 at the Class 4A state meet, leading the Trojans to the championship as a team. She also ran a leg on the victorious 4x100-meter relay team, and won both the 200 (25.72 seconds) and the 400-meter run (56.68) at the state Meet of Champions.
Academic excellence: Reynolds has maintained a 3.68 GPA in the classroom.
Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally feeding the homeless and tutoring students in math and science.
“Madison has done everything we’ve asked of her, and then some,” said Douglass assistant coach Harvey Ryan. “She’s a fabulous worker with a big heart who just refuses to be beaten.”
THE FUTURE: Reynolds has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete in track and field on scholarship at Oral Roberts University this fall.
