A dedicated ESPNHS team managed this spring's Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year selection process, resulting in winners based on the program's three pillars: athletic production and impact in the 2012 season, high academic achievement and exemplary personal character.

THE WINNER: Jackie Tondl


School: Marian (Omaha, Neb.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Defender
Height: 5-foot-10


Athletic achievement: Tondl led the Crusaders to a 20-1 record and the Class A state title this past season. She scored 11 goals and passed for four assists while anchoring a defense that allowed just three goals in 21 games with 10 straight shutouts to end the season. A two-time Super State First Team selection and an Academic All-State honoree, Tondl was a four-year starter for Marian. The Crusaders allowed 15 goals in Tondl’s 83 career games, an average of 0.18 goals against per contest.

Academic excellence: Tondl has maintained a 4.11 weighted GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally with Habitat for Humanity, as a youth soccer coach and as a mentor to Marian High freshmen.
