A dedicated ESPNHS team managed the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year selection process, resulting in this winner based on the program's three pillars: athletic production and impact in the 2011-12 season, high academic achievement and exemplary personal character.

THE WINNER: Trey Killian

THE BASICS

School: Mountain Home (Ark.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Right-handed pitcher
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 190 pounds

THE PILLARS

Athletic achievement: Killian posted an 8-1 record on the mound along with a 0.88 ERA and 138 strikeouts in 64 innings this past season, leading the Bombers (17-15) to the Class 6A state quarterfinals. A 2011 First Team All-State selection and 2011 Under Armour All-American, he also batted .303 with 23 runs scored and nine stolen bases in nine attempts.

Academic excellence: Killian has maintained a 3.14 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: A devoted member of his church community, he has volunteered locally on behalf of fundraising initiatives to benefit cancer research and assisted in relief efforts for area flood victims.
