A dedicated ESPNHS team managed the Gatorade Softball Player of the Year selection process, resulting in this winner based on the program's three pillars: athletic production and impact in the 2011-12 season, high academic achievement and exemplary personal character.

THE WINNER: Christy Von Pusch
School: Radnor (Pa.)
Position: Right-handed pitcher
Athletic achievement: Von Pusch posted a 14-2 record in 103.1 innings this past season, compiling a 0.81 ERA, 205 strikeouts and leading the Raiders (19-2) to their first Central League title since 1984. She also batted .455 with three home runs and 21 RBI. Von Pusch is a First Team All-State selection and the Delco Times Player of the Year.
Academic excellence: Von Pusch has maintained a 3.81 GPA in the classroom.
Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally on behalf of a soup kitchen and youth softball programs.
“Von Pusch has it all athletically and she’s a fabulous pitcher,” said Mike DiLuzio, head coach at Garnet Valley (Glen Mills, Pa.). “She bats third in their lineup and drives in a lot of their runs too. She’s a great all-around player.”
THE FUTURE: Von Pusch has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball on scholarship at Penn State University this fall.
