POY Alumni: Reyna to run Team USA camp

POY Alumni: Claudio ReynaGatoradeTwenty years removed from winning Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year, Claudio Reyna will run Team USA's pre-Olympic training camp.
United States Under-23 men's soccer head coach Caleb Porter has chosen a 31-man roster for this month's Team USA pre-Olympic training camp in Duisburg, Germany, from Nov. 7-16. But because of Porter's dual responsibilities as head coach of defending NCAA champion Akron, Claudio Reyna, the 1990-91 Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year, will run the camp -- a joint assemblage of U-23 Men's National Team and U-20 team players.

Arguably the best U.S.-born player ever and now the U.S. Soccer Federation youth technical director, Reyna earned 112 caps with the U.S. National Team and made four World Cup rosters (1994-2006). He captained Team USA during the quadrennial tournament in 2002 and 2006, becoming the third American ever named to a World Cup All-Tournament Team in 2002.

In high school, Reyna attended Saint Benedict's Preparatory School (Newark, N.J.). He led the Gray Bees to consecutive state titles in 1989 and 1990 before going on to a Hermann Trophy-winning career at Virginia, where he anchored a trio of NCAA championship teams during three seasons in Charlottesville.
