A dedicated ESPNHS team managed the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year selection process, resulting in this winner based on the program's three pillars: athletic production and impact in the 2011-12 season, high academic achievement and exemplary personal character.

THE WINNER: Robert Kaminsky


School: St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.)
Grade: Junior
Position: LHP/CF
Height: 6-foot
Weight: 188 pounds


Athletic achievement: Kaminsky led the Green Knights to a 20-5 record entering the Non-Public, North A tournament quarterfinals, scheduled for May 29. A Preseason First Team All-American as named by Perfect Game USA, he owned a 7-1 record with a 0.00 ERA and 90 strikeouts against just 13 walks in 46 innings pitched through his first 25 games. Kaminsky threw six shutouts and three no-hitters in his first eight starts. He batted .416 with one home run and 18 RBI. A returning First Team All-Bergen County selection, Kaminsky produced a .597 slugging percentage.

Academic excellence: Kaminsky has maintained a B average in the classroom.

Exemplary character: He has donated his time at a local food pantry and volunteered on behalf of the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Ambulance Corps as an EMT.
