A dedicated ESPNHS team managed this past fall's Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year selection process, resulting in winners based on the program's three pillars: athletic production and impact in the 2011 season, high academic achievement and exemplary personal character.

THE WINNER: Brett Campbell

THE BASICS

School: The Haverford School (Haverford, Conn.)
Grade: Junior
Position: Forward
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 170 pounds

THE PILLARS

Athletic achievement: Campbell led the Fords to an 18-2-1 record and the Pennsylvania Independent Schools state championship this past season. He scored 39 goals and passed for eight assists, including scoring both goals in a 2-1 win over Episcopal Academy in the PIS state final. A First Team All-Inter-Ac League selection and a Southeastern Pennsylvania Coaches Association All-Star, Campbell will enter his senior season with 63 goals and 18 assists in his prep career.

Academic excellence: Campbell has maintained an A-minus average in the classroom.

Exemplary character: An avid drummer and pianist, he has volunteered locally at a nursing home and at Lankenau Medical Center, receiving the center’s Superior Service Award in July 2011.
