Texas Week 5 POWERADE baseball rankings: Calallen claims top spot

4/4/2012

After games on Saturday, March 31

CC Carroll entered the gauntlet that is the National High School Invitational knowing it would be far from easy with six POWERADE FAB 50 teams in the mix. The Tigers emerged with a 1-2 record, falling to a red-hot Mater Dei (Calif.) squad and then-top-ranked Bishop Gorman (Nev.) by a combined count of 21-4. As a result, Calallen is the new No. 1 team in Texas this week, as the Wildcats remain undefeated after 22 games and move into the No. 2 slot in the latest POWERADE FAB 50.

The Tigers will have their chance to get back in the top spot, though, as they are slated to play Calallen on April 21.

Here are this week's rankings (last week's rankings in parentheses):

1. Calallen (Corpus Christi) 22-0 (2)

Wildcats continued their unblemished start with wins against Tuloso-Midway and John Paul II.

2. Klein Collins (Spring) 18-2 (3)

Tigers are the lone undefeated team in District 13-5A at 7-0 and have now won 17 games in a row.

3. Carroll (Corpus Christi) 18-2 (1)

Tigers went 1-2 at the loaded National High School Baseball Invitational. Courtney Hawkins was dominant in their lone win, pitching a complete-game shutout while belting a home run.
