Game of the Week: Chantilly (1-0) vs. Stone Bridge (1-0)
Will anyone be able to stop Jonathan Allen. The Stone Bridge junior and ESPNHS All-Area pick had four sacks last week as the Bulldogs stymied Robinson’s attack, 3-0. Chantilly should pose more of a threat after the Chargers rolled up more than 200 rushing yards in a 44-0 win over W.T. Woodson.
David’s Prediction (1-0): Chantilly will have trouble moving the ball against Stone Bridge's front seven, and Bridge’s offense will find its groove behind junior QB Ryan Burns to take a 13-7 victory.
Good Counsel vs. Gilman — The Patriot Classic (Saturday)
You don’t like football if you’re not amped up for this matchup of POWERADE FAB 50 squads. The teams are playing for the No. 1 spot in Maryland, and the Falcons will also be seeking retribution after a 28-7 loss to Gilman last fall. Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium will be packed as fans are sure to get their money's worth with two of the nation’s most dynamic athletes, Gilman’s Cyrus Jones and last week’s hero Stefon Diggs of Good Counsel, ready to provide some new footage for the highlight reels.
Potomac (0-1) at Spalding (1-0) — Patriot Classic
Notre Dame recruit Ronald Darby should be back for Potomac after missing the opener with a groin injury. The Wolverines struggled on offense in his absence, mustering a single touchdown in a 14-12 loss to Gwynn Park last week. Spalding was victorious last week, dropping Douglass 21-8 on the road. Ryan Cochran made the Douglass defense pay with a pair of touchdown runs.
Fairmont Heights (1-0) at H.D. Woodson (0-1)
Woodson looks to bounce back from a Week 1 loss to Martinsburg when it plays its first contest at its recently renovated home field. Kenneth Crawley looks to ignite the offense against a Fairmont defense that allowed 40 points in its loss to Surratsville.
