Maryland football finals primer

With another week of playoff action to go in Virginia, we'll take today to get you ready for this weekend's Maryland title games. Chime in with your predictions in the comments section.

Class 4A finals

Old Mill vs. Quince Orchard — Tonight at M&T Stadium, 7:30

Rob Chesson is in the midst of a record season with 49 touchdowns, but Quince Orchard won't be an easy squad to run against. Add the fact that the Cougars have their own dominant runner in senior Mark Green (25 TDs) and I'll have to give a slight edge to QO in this one.

Class 3A finals

Thomas Johnson vs. River Hill — Saturday at M&T Stadium at 7 p.m.

You have to like the way River Hill is playing with senior Raamah Vaughn lined up under center. Vaughn hasn't had to throw much, but his speed and athleticism has produced five scores on the ground in the last three games, including a three-TD effort against Aberdeen last week. TJ running back Brandon Berney has a nose for the end zone and QB Heath Dahlgren's passing helps opens up lanes for his talented back.

Class 2A finals

Middletown vs. Douglass — Saturday at M&T Stadium at3:30 p.m.

They have never clinched a title but the Knights have advanced to the title game five times. The squad is hungry which doesn't bode well for the Eagles. Senior Zach Welch could be the deciding factor in this one as his propensity for clutch kicks should help Middletown in a tight contest. Douglass counters with a suffocating defense and RB Emmanuel Smith and Josef Hinnant, who each topped the 100-yard mark in a win over Kent Island last week.
