It just seems strange to not have Skyline holding down one of the top two spots in the local rankings. But a grueling early-season schedule has dropped the Class 4A perennial powers to No. 5 in Washington. With losses to No. 1 Bellevue and Oregon’s Lake Oswego, Skyline has lost consecutive contests for the first time in more than a decade. Max Browne was stellar in defeat, however, overcoming an early INT to throw for a school-record 459 yards and three TDs.
Bellevue continues its stranglehold on No. 1 and Lakes seems poised to be in the top three all season. Defending state champ Ferris is the top 4A team at No. 2, while Eastlake’s potent attack has helped the Wolves skyrocket to No. 4. New to the mix is Federal Way — a team that features a stellar playmaker in workhorse back D.J. May.
A bubble team to keep an eye out for is Ingraham. The school is the subject of tomorrow night’s RISE UP TV series, and the Rams football team has come out like gangbusters with three wins by a combined score of 85-28, including a 39-22 win over Rainier Beach Friday night.
Here is how the top three teams fared last week:
Bellevue — defeated Interlake, 42-20 (last week No. 1)
Ferris — defeated North Central, 49-9 (last week No. 4)
Lakes — defeated Capital, 57-7 (last week No. 3)
