Texans coach Bill O'Brien isn't announcing his whole staff yet, but most of it is set. And while he's put together his staff, some former Texans coaches have started to find work.
We'll give two summaries of where things stand both with the current Texans coaching staff and the former Texans coaching staff, looking at defense today and offense tomorrow.
Most of the coaches from last year's staff that ranked seventh in the league in yards allowed have found work.
Defensive Coordinator: Romeo Crennel hadn't met O'Brien until his interview earlier this month, but liked what he learned. Despite still being paid by the Kansas City Chiefs for another year, Crennel agreed to a three-year deal to be the Texans' defensive coordinator.
Former DC: Wade Phillips has not resurfaced, and one wonders if his age has something to do with that.
Defensive line coach: O'Brien retained Bill Kollar from the previous staff
Linebackers coach: Former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel left Ohio State to join his former coach, Crennel.
Former LB coach: Reggie Herring was hired by the Bears as linebackers coach.
Defensive backs coach: John Butler was most recently O'Brien's defensive coordinator at Penn State. He'll likely be assisted by Anthony Midget, who coached safeties at Penn State.
Former DB coach: Vance Joseph joined the Bengals as a defensive backs coach. They already have someone in that role, but will double up on the position.
