Last week we reviewed the Texans roster with one gaping hole at nose tackle.
Gaping is the right word here, because they're looking for a big fellow there. They picked one up Tuesday in free agency, according to the league's transaction wire. Jerrell Powe, a 6-foot-2, 330-pound nose tackle is now a Houston Texan. Powe is the first outside free agent the Texans have signed since the new league year opened, and he's also the only nose tackle on the Texans' roster right now.
He was a sixth-round pick by the Chiefs in 2011, back when Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel was the head coach there. Though he had some talent, it never quite worked out between Powe and the Chiefs. He was released before the 2013 season and then waited until the Chiefs re-signed him in December.
This doesn't look like a solution for the Texans' vacant starting nose tackle position, but they needed more than just that prior.
