Reading the coverage of the Houston Texans...
Houston defensive end J.J. Watt is among a group of talented fifth-year players playing on option years, writes CBSSports.com's Jason LaCanfora. "More than two months have passed since the deadline for teams to exercise fifth-year options on the 2011 first-round picks, and, what do you know, shockingly, there has been almost no progress on getting them new deals. No flood of press releases announcing their long-term contracts. Pretty much nothing at all."
Dave Zangaro of CSNHouston.com is looking at position battles heading into training camp. He began yesterday with backup quarterback. "For whatever reason, once the Texans traded T.J. Yates, many rushed to name Case Keenum the Texans’ backup quarterback. But let’s slow down a little bit. Keenum certainly has more experience than rookie Tom Savage, but that doesn’t mean Savage won’t catch up in training camp. 'It’s not easy at all to come into any NFL team and be a rookie quarterback,' Texans head coach Bill O’Brien said about Savage. 'I think he’s working hard and he’s made improvement but he’s got a long way to go.'
John McClain and Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle break down the top storylines heading into training camp this year. They go with Brian Cushing's return, the defensive backfield, Arian Foster and Ben Jones in his third season competing with Xavier Su'a-Filo at left guard. Watch the magic happen here.
