2013 stats: 63 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 1 interception
Injury prone. That sums up Angerer’s last two years with the Colts. A foot injury in 2012. A concussion and knee problem this season.
So instead of talking about Angerer leading the Colts in tackles (146) in 2011, he’ll likely be best remembered for unfortunately not being able to stay healthy.
Angerer started the first nine games he played in this season, was then replaced in the starting lineup by Kelvin Sheppard, then was on the inactive list and then in an odd twist, he was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury on Dec. 17, 2013, a day after coach Chuck Pagano said he was a healthy scratch against the Tennessee Titans.
“I tried to battle through the knee the whole year, but I couldn’t do it anymore and I knew I was going to have to have the surgery done so there was no need to put it off anymore,” Angerer said.
Angerer faces an extensive rehab that will take several months for him to recover from the knee surgery.
“I’m not going to be stubborn about it like I’ve been in the past,” he said. “Definitely take my time and get better. I want to play here. It’s a great place. My son was born here. I got a house here. I love it here. I had some work done on my knee. Just take it slow and let it heal and get better.”
Prediction: The Colts will likely not re-sign Angerer. He missed 10 games in the past two seasons.
