INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis earned the big payday when he re-signed with the team for four years for a total of $39 million with $20 million of it guaranteed. Davis’ salary-cap value of $6.25 million for the 2014 season is second only to linebacker Robert Mathis’ $8.75 million next season. That means Davis’ number is higher than receiver Reggie Wayne and quarterback Andrew Luck.
Davis talked about not feeling pressure to live up to his contract when he talked to the media after getting his new deal on March 11.
“If I was making a dollar, it wouldn’t matter,” he said. “You just have to go out there and play. The organization has trust in me enough to obviously bring me back. I just have to continue to work hard and I think everything will work out for itself.”
