Arthur Jones truly a run-stopper

4/29/2014

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts usually did a good job fixing any rushing woes their opponents had last season. The Colts finished 26th in the league against the run, allowing an average of 125.1 yards on the ground.

Enter new Colts defensive lineman Arthur Jones.

Jones was a run-stopper with the Baltimore Ravens last season.

The Ravens gave up only 3.4 yards a carry with Jones on the field last season, according to ESPN Stats & Information. That average was good enough for second in the league. Baltimore gave up 4.6 yards a carry when Jones was not on the field. That would have put them at 29th in the league.

Jones, who signed a five-year deal with the Colts last month, finished with 53 tackles and four sacks last season.

Now Indianapolis hopes Jones will have a similar impact next season. He's joining Josh Chapman, Montori Hughes, Ricky Jean Francois, Fili Moala, Jeris Pendleton and Cory Redding on the defensive line.

"These guys have so much energy," Jones said. "[Defensive coordinator Greg] Manusky, from day one of me going to his locker, he's ready. When you've got coaches that are passionate about that, you love to go to war for them. It's a great room. I'm just excited. I'm very excited to be here."
