RTC: Peyton Manning praises Dallas Clark

6/18/2014

Here's Wednesday's Colts' Reading the Coverage. ...

  • Mike Chappell of the Indy Star caught up with quarterback Peyton Manning to get his thoughts on tight end Dallas Clark retiring after an 11-year career. "I can remember when we drafted Dallas back in 2003 noticing what an incredible athlete Dallas was,'' Manning said. "You could see it right away. Dallas is what you would call a 'freak' in the weight room. His ability to perform certain exercises and his display of athleticism and flexibility was impressive to witness. You saw that transfer to the playing field. He had unbelievable speed. I can remember many a time him catching a 15-yard seam route and taking it 80 yards for a touchdown.''

  • Stephen Holder, also of the Star, writes that the Colts' secondary has issues after cornerback Greg Toler was the only one of the expected starters to take part in Tuesday's minicamp session. New Colts safety Mike Adams did take part in practice. "I told coach and I told (Grigson), 'I appreciate you telling me that I don't have the job,'" Adams said. "I appreciate that because I was an underdog my whole career. I love competing and proving people wrong."

  • Chappell has a note on Colts second-round pick Jack Mewhort continuing to work with the starting unit at guard. Mewhort played guard and tackle while at Ohio State.

  • Craig Kelley of Colts.com has his minicamp roundup. “It's great to (get) going,” coach Chuck Pagano said. “We've made great progress and want to finish this mini-camp strong. I'm pleased with things we got done today. We've got some things to clean up. We feel we're farther along than we've ever been.”
