“I’m not a guy who has missed a lot of football in my career,” he said. “It was good to be back out there with fresh legs.”
Mewhort, the Colts’ second-round pick, was pulled from the Aug. 9 practice with about 45 minutes to go and had his knee immediately wrapped in ice. He was held out of the final four days of training camp practices and didn’t play in the preseason game against the New York Giants over the weekend.
Mewhort had surgery on his right knee after minicamp in June.
“I’m not worried about it,” Mewhort said. “Mainly it’s precautionary. I want to get [the knee] under control. Not that it was anything serious. It’s a long season. It’s like nothing I’ve ever done before. I want to make sure I’m going into [the season] with a fairly healthy joint on my right knee …. I just have to get my strength back up. No need to worry."
Mewhort is expected to be back in the starting lineup for Saturday’s preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. The starters will likely play at least through halftime against the Saints.
