Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton withdrew his name from the search for the Vanderbilt University head-coaching job, according to CBSSports.com.
Hamilton will likely be a head coach one day at the college or NFL level, but the fact that he’ll be back with the Colts next season is great for him and the team.
It’s not a good time for the Colts to have Hamilton bolt for a head-coaching job. They need to continue to develop the continuity together. Luck would have been on his third offensive coordinator if Hamilton got the Vanderbilt job.
The Colts will only be better on offense next season with Hamilton and the rest of the injured players, including receiver Reggie Wayne and tight Dwayne Allen, returning.
As was pointed out countless times throughout the season, Hamilton’s play calling deserved to be questioned at times. It also has to be noted that Hamilton basically had one hand tied behind his back because of the limited offensive weapons he had.
