Landry, Davis set for preseason debut

By Mike Wells

ANDERSON, Ind. -- The good news or the bad news first?

Let’s go with the bad news first.

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis was wearing a walking boot on his left foot Wednesday because of a sore toe.

Don’t panic, though.

The good news is that Davis and safety LaRon Landry will play in Saturday’s preseason game against the New York Giants.

Davis (groin) and Landry (groin) did not practice for nearly the first two weeks of training camp because they were working their way back from injuries. They also did not take part in the team's mandatory minicamp in June.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said he doesn’t know how many snaps Davis and Landry will play against the Giants.

Having Davis and Landry play against the Giants means there’s a chance the Colts could have the lineup they plan to start against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 7. The only position in question on defense is who will start alongside Landry at safety.

Delano Howell is listed as the starter on the depth chart, but Pagano said don’t read too much into that. Sergio Brown and Mike Adams are also in the running.

“It’ll shake out how it shakes out,” Pagano said. Disregard the depth chart. Disregard who’s written behind free safety, the name behind strong safety.”
