Jaguars stat of the week

Every Thursday I’ll present an interesting (to me, anyway) stat, break it down, and try to provide some context heading into the game the following weekend.

December has not been the kindest month for the Jacksonville Jaguars over the past two seasons. The team has lost seven consecutive games in December, the longest active losing streak in that month in the NFL. (Detroit has lost five in a row, Kansas City four in a row.)

But the Jaguars have a pretty good chance of ensuring that the streak doesn’t reach double digits this December. Their final five games are against teams with a combined record of 22-33. Only one of the teams (Indianapolis) has a winning record, and the Jaguars have already beaten two of the teams (Houston and Tennessee) on the road.

Here’s a look at the Jaguars' December losing streak:

  • Dec. 15, 2011: Atlanta 41, Jacksonville 14

  • Dec. 24, 2011: Tennessee 23, Jacksonville 17

  • Dec. 2, 2012: Buffalo 34, Jacksonville 18

  • Dec. 9, 2012: New York Jets 17, Jacksonville 10

  • Dec. 16, 2012: Miami 24, Jacksonville 3

  • Dec. 23, 2012: New England 23, Jacksonville 16

  • Dec. 30, 2012: Tennessee 38, Jacksonville 20

The Jaguars’ remaining opponents in 2013:

  • Dec. 1: at Cleveland (4-7)

  • Dec. 5: vs. Houston (2-9)

  • Dec. 15: vs. Buffalo (4-7)

  • Dec. 22: vs. Tennessee (5-6)

  • Dec. 29: at Indianapolis (7-4)
