Jaguars wakeup call

September, 1, 2014
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Here's a preview of what to watch for regarding the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday.

It's the first Monday of the regular season, and the Jaguars will be on the practice field shortly before 11 a.m. ET. Coach Gus Bradley is scheduled to speak with the media at about 12:30 p.m. ET.

One of the biggest stories to monitor this week will be the status of three starters: Defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks (shoulder), left guard Zane Beadles (calf), and kicker Josh Scobee (quad). A definitive answer on whether they'll be available for the season opener against Philadelphia likely won't be made until later in the week, but Bradley will give an update on their status this afternoon.

Second-year receiver Ace Sanders is suspended for the first four weeks of the season for a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy and receiver Tandon Doss is on IR. So who is going to return punts for the Jaguars? Receiver Mike Brown and cornerback Will Blackmon have worked at the spot in preseason, but Bradley should have a more definitive answer today.

The development of linebacker J.T. Thomas made Nate Stupar expendable. Thomas can play outside and inside, and that versatility was a big reason the Jaguars kept the fourth-year player from West Virginia. We'll hear from Thomas and Bradley about this today.
