RTC: Don't draft Manziel for tickets

By Michael DiRocco

MOBILE, Ala. -- If Jaguars general manager David Caldwell does indeed draft quarterback Johnny Manziel with the No. 3 overall pick in May, it had better be strictly a football decision.

Manziel's box-office appeal shouldn't be part of the decision, writes the Florida Times-Union's Gene Frenette.

It's the Tim Tebow argument all over again. Will Manziel put a few extra fans in the seats? Possibly, but that should never be a reason for drafting a player. Frenette writes that drafting players who can help you win games is the best way to help attendance.

Here are some additional pieces of Jaguars-related content from around the Web in our daily Reading the Coverage feature:

It may be a moot point anyway, because CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora has reported that the Cleveland Browns would be willing to trade up to land Manziel. The Browns have the No. 4 pick.

Why was the Jaguars' pass rush better in the second half of the season? They rushed more players more often, writes the T-U's Ryan O'Halloran.
