NFL combine: Day 1 primer

By Michael DiRocco

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A daily Jaguars-related look at what's happening at the NFL combine in Indianapolis:

Wednesday, Feb. 19

What: Place-kicker, special teams, offensive line and tight end medical pre-exam and X-rays, orientation, and interviews.

TV: No broadcast today.

The skinny: The first day is a relatively light day but it's no less important for the Jaguars because they'll begin the interview process with tight ends and offensive linemen, two areas of need. The Jaguars need help along the interior of the offense line, and while the team is likely to address that area in free agency, it's also going to try to add some young talent as well. I tend to think the Jaguars will add a center in free agency and draft a guard or two, simply because it's much easier to step in and play guard as a rookie. The Jaguars also are looking for a tight end to complement Marcedes Lewis. The Jaguars want a bigger tight end who can block as well as be a threat in the passing game -- essentially someone just like Lewis -- and not a flex tight end who can line up at receiver or in the slot on a regular basis. Workouts for the players in this group will begin on Friday.
