KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Certainly at some point in their history the Kansas City Chiefs have had a regular-season game as widely anticipated as the one they will play this Sunday night against the Broncos in Denver.
This one has to rank right up there. The Chiefs will arrive in Denver at 9-0 and as the NFL's only remaining unbeaten team but the Broncos are right behind them at 8-1 after beating the Chargers in San Diego Sunday.
The game would be compelling even if that's all it had going for it. There's much more, including:
The Broncos have the NFL's highest-scoring offense, the Chiefs have allowed fewer points than any other team.
The Chiefs actually began preparing for this game months ago.
Andy Reid's teams are 13-1 after the bye week.
Will Peyton Manning play? The Chiefs are on incredible run, having faced an opponent's new starting quarterback in four of their last five games.
This is only Round 1 in this battle. The regular-season rematch is Dec. 1 at Arrowhead Stadium. And there may be a third matchup in the postseason.
We'll be examining all these angles and more in a week the likes of which we haven't seen around here for years.
