KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- As happens to teams which make a leap in the standings from one season to the next, the Kansas City Chiefs will play a more difficult schedule in 2014.

The Chiefs will play seven games against teams in this year's playoff field: Denver, San Diego, New England and Seattle at Arrowhead Stadium, Denver, San Diego and San Francisco on the road.

They played six such games this season (Denver twice, San Diego twice, Indianapolis, Philadelphia). The Chiefs were 1-5 in those games.

Where the schedule gets more difficult is that the Chiefs will face fewer of the league's pushovers. The Chiefs will play four games against teams that finished this season in last place in their division (Oakland and St. Louis at home, Oakland and Buffalo on the road). They had six games against last place teams this season (Oakland twice, Washington, Buffalo, Cleveland and Houston). The Chiefs were 6-0 in these games.

Here is the schedule in its entirety:

Home: Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks.

Road: Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals andSan Francisco 49ers.
