KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- I’m from the school of thought that a team should have a nice win to its credit before being showered with praise. The Chiefs, despite a blowout victory over Jacksonville in the season opener, don’t have that type of win yet. The Jaguars could easily wind up with the first pick in next year’s draft.
But for dominating the Jaguars, the Chiefs dropped a spot in this week’s Power Rankings and fell to 20th. The logic escapes me. Sure, Jacksonville has many problems. Yet isn’t the type of beating the Chiefs put on the Jaguars exactly what good teams are supposed to do against lousy ones?
Like a lot of people, I’m still not sure how good the Chiefs are. They may get exposed as soon as this Sunday against the Cowboys at Arrowhead Stadium. They sure don’t deserve to shoot into the top 10, even after thoroughly dominating the Jaguars.
They do deserve better than to fall one spot deeper into the pack.
