His teammate, linebacker Tamba Hali, was interviewed on the show in which Smith's selection to the list was revealed. He not only defended the selection of Smith, but said he should have been ranked higher.
"That there is disrespectful," Hali said. "Alex Smith is one of those quarterbacks in the league that makes plays every week. We come out there and he's proven it over the years. I feel he should be much higher. I feel it's disrespectful and I hope the fans agree with me."
NFL Network interviewed a couple of Oakland Raiders for the Smith segment. Each complimented Smith in a backhanded sort of way.
"Alex Smith, man, that's a good dude," said wide receiver Michael Crabtree, who used to play with Smith with the San Francisco 49ers. "For whatever reason it didn't work on the field with us. Like I said, he's good dude. Watching him this year, I was smiling, man, because he was throwing some passes. He was throwing some deep passes on the money. I was like, 'Why he couldn't he throw me the ball like that?' "
Cornerback D.J. Hayden: "People say he plays kind of conservative. I just say he just [doesn't] want to mess up."
