UCLA freshman Shabazz Muhammad was named the Pac-12 men's basketball player of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Muhammad, a 6-6 forward, scored 27 points, including seven in overtime, as UCLA defeated No. 7 Missouri on Friday at Pauley Pavilion. He made two three-pointers in the extra period, including one with a minute to play that gave UCLA the lead for good at 95-93. He made 10 of 19 shots in the game.
Muhammad, one of the top recruits in the nation out of high school last season, is averaging a team-best 19.6 points per game and has scored a career-high 27 in consecutive games. He has scored in double figures in every game he's played this season. Muhammad is the first UCLA player to win the Pac-12 weekly honor since Lazeric Jones on March 5, 2012.
