Defending national champion UCLA is ranked No. 2 in the preseason ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25, despite earning half of the 20 first-place votes.

Arizona, last year's runner-up, received nine first-place votes but is ranked at the top because of a higher point total. UCLA, which went 10-0 in the postseason last year, opens its title defense on Feb. 11 at Easton Stadium. The Pac-10 is represented well in the initial poll, with seven schools cracking the top 18.

The poll:

1. Arizona (9)
2. UCLA (10)
3. Alabama (1)
4. Georgia
5. Florida
6. Oklahoma
7. Tennessee
8. Michigan
9. Missouri
10. Arizona State
11. Washington
12. California
13. Hawaii
14. Oregon
15. Texas
16. Louisiana State
17. Georgia Tech
18. Stanford
19. Texas A&M
20. Brigham Young
