Has Joshua Smith changed his ways?

2/1/2011

In two words: Not really.

Remember the fuss surrounding Joshua Smith and his problem with "The Whistle?" The big man drew four fouls in each of his first five collegiate games and didn't play more than 20 minutes until his sixth game. And get this: UCLA's prized recruit is 20 games into his freshman season and has reached the 25-minute plateau just twice -- and not once since Dec. 11. He has fouled out twice during Pac-10 play, averaging 3.6 fouls during conference.

Smith's early-whistle trend has continued as well. Here is a brief breakdown of Smith's fouls in conference games, followed by the amount of time Smith spent on the floor before he drew his first foul:

Dec. 29, vs. Wazzu (4 fouls) - 7:52

Dec. 31, vs. Wash. (5 fouls) - 7:20

Jan. 9, at USC (5 fouls) - 2:41

Jan. 13, at Ore. St. (4 fouls) - 1:08

Jan. 15, at Oregon (3 fouls) - 7:35

Jan. 20, vs. Cal (1 foul) - 0:39

Jan. 22, vs. Stan. - did not play (head injury)

Jan. 27, at Arizona (4 fouls) - 1:15

Jan. 29, at ASU (3 fouls) - 7:21
