Baxter talks newfound popularity

The last week has surely been an interesting one for USC early enrollee running back Dillon Baxter. Last Saturday, the true freshman broke out for a 50-yard touchdown run during the Trojans' first scrimmage of the spring. Since then, video of the play has blown up all over the Internet, and Baxter has become almost a household name in USC circles.

He came back down to earth a little bit Saturday, in USC's second scrimmage. Baxter carried the ball 11 times but gained just 15 yards — a yards-per-carry average of 1.4, fourth among the four primary backs. The 15-yard total did include a 12-yard loss on a broken play that Baxter was saddled with, but he struggled to find running room on most of his touches.

After practice, Baxter talked about searching for consistency with his carries, the running backs' collective lack of success Saturday, and how he has dealt with his sudden fame:
