We're just about set to go at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum for the Trojans' game against Arizona. Here are a couple of last-minute things worthy of an update before kickoff:
Getting the start for the Trojans for the first time is cornerback Anthony Brown, who's subbing for the injured Torin Harris (shoulder). Brown made his defensive debut last week against Arizona State after jumping Tony Burnett in the depth chart. The cornerback order for today's game, presumably, is Nickell Robey, Brown, Burnett, and juco transfer Isiah Wiley. USC will be in nickel for a lot of the game against a pass-happy Arizona squad.
Not suited up are linebacker Lamar Dawson and running back Amir Carlisle, both true freshmen sidelined with ankle injuries. This will be Dawson's second straight missed game but Carlisle's first, as the tailback made his debut last week against ASU but got hurt late in the first half. One thing to follow: How will the Trojans back up starting middle linebacker Chris Galippo? Dawson subbed in for him in the second and third contests, but when he was out against the Sun Devils, Galippo played pretty much the entire game. Former walk-on Will Andrew is the second-stringer at that spot.
With Carlisle out, Dillon Baxter and/or D.J. Morgan could get legitimate opportunities to carry the ball for the first time in a while. Marc Tyler's the starter, but the Trojans need a speedy back running to best take advantage of the Wildcats' weaknesses stopping the run game.
Starting today at defensive end is junior Wes Horton. He and Devon Kennard switch out game-by-game across from Nick Perry, but all three players get about equal snaps.
