Joel Pineiro set to return: notes and lineups

* Pitcher Joel Pineiro felt good after his minor-league rehab outing Monday night and he is tentatively scheduled to come off the disabled list to pitch Saturday's game in Tampa Bay. He threw 71 pitches and reached his usual velocity, in the upper 80s.

"I'm ready," Pineiro said. "If it's up to me, I'm ready to go."

Thursday's day off will give the Angels an opportunity to get their other starters an extra day of rest. Manager Mike Scioscia said Jered Weaver likely will pitch Sunday, meaning he can't become the first pitcher ever to get seven wins before May 1.

* Maicer Izturis, the Angels' leading hitter, was out of the lineup for the third straight game because of a mildly strained left hamstring. Scioscia said Izturis probably would return for Friday's game.

* Second baseman Alexi Amarista was in the lineup, making his major-league debut. Amarista is listed at 5 feet 8, but he's several inches shorter than that. Angels bench coach Rob Picciolo was the roving minor-league infield instructor last season and worked with Amarista.

"He's got a big heart. He's mentally strong and very confident," Picciolo said.

Amarista's father, also named Alexi, was murdered during a home-invasion robbery in Venezuela last November.
