Angels right-hander Ervin Santana was scratched from today's Cactus League start after bumping his elbow at his Tempe, Ariz., residence, causing the bursa sac to become inflamed.

The Angels were quick to assert that this injury has no relation to the elbow soreness that caused Santana to miss six weeks of last season and then to struggle mightily for a couple of months. Thus far, Santana had been the shining light of the spring after pitching five scoreless innings and predicting a breakout season. He was an All-Star in 2008, but was 8-8 with a 5.03 ERA last season as his velocity dipped considerably.
