Angels owner Arte Moreno’s was named the Los Angeles Sports Council’s executive of the year on Tuesday.
Moreno, who also won the award in 2005, agreed to shell out more than $330 million to sign slugger Albert Pujols, left-handed pitcher C.J. Wilson and reliever LaTroy Hawkins in the past two months. He also helped convince Pujols to sign with the Angels in several telephone conversations before the deal was completed.
The council will present the award to Moreno at its annual L.A. Sports Awards show March 15 at Club Nokia at L.A. Live.
