The Angels already caught a break in this series when they missed the Mariners' two aces, Cliff Lee and Felix Hernandez. Now, their good fortune continues. The Mariners scratched their third-best starter, Doug Fister, for Saturday's game because of a fatigued right shoulder.

Instead, the Angels will face lefty Ryan Rowland-Smith, who has a 7.24 ERA in 11 appearances, including eight starts.

The Mariners say they expect Fister to return to their rotation when they travel to Texas next week.
