NEW YORK -- Los Angeles Angels outfielder Torii Hunter missed Saturday’s 5-3 loss to the New York Yankees with tightness in his right groin, but doesn’t expect the issue to be a lingering one.

Hunter doesn’t expect to be back in the lineup on Sunday. He thinks he’ll likely return on Monday in Detroit.

"I'll probably get another day," Hunter said. "I'm day-to-day."

Hunter suffered the injury while going after Russell Martin’s go-ahead, eighth-inning single Friday night.
  • Manager Mike Scoscia didn’t have an update on Dan Haren’s Saturday bullpen session because it hadn’t happened yet.
  • Garrett Richards is a candidate to be promoted from the minors and get the nod for Tuesday’s start against the Tigers.“A young pitcher that's still developing, with a power arm, some of the things he's going through are not uncommon,” Scioscia said. “When he makes his pitches in good zones, his stuff plays big time in the Major Leagues. That's where hopefully he's going to be as he continues to progress.”
  • Derek Jeter let Mike Trout’s family and friends watch the game from his suite on Friday night. That wasn’t the case Saturday, though, Trout said. The 20-year-old rookie said his parents, cousins and uncles from outside of Boston came up to sit in the stands to watch him Saturday. Trout hails from Millville, N.J., about a two-hour drive from the Bronx.
  • The Angels are 5-7 in their last 12 games, 30-15 in their last 45. ... They are 3-5 vs. the Yankees this season. ... Trout stole multiple bases in a game for an MLB-high ninth straight time this season. He has stolen 21 straight bases without being caught. ... Mark Trumbo’s MLB record-tying streak of five straight games with a homer against New York ended Saturday.
