Scott Kazmir: Should he start again?

The Angels late-inning relievers were awful for the fourth straight day, but the story line that figures to endure from Sunday was another shoddy performance by starter Scott Kazmir.

I'm probably in the minority, but I suspect this bullpen will be OK in the long run. Some roles may shuffle -- I'm guessing Jordan Walden will be the closer before long -- but there is enough talent in that area to eventually settle matters.

Kazmir's case is entirely different. He was awful all last season, worse in the spring and looked incapable of facing major-leaguers in his season debut. He allowed nine base runners in less than two innings.

The Angels probably would yank him from the rotation now if Joel Pineiro weren't on the disabled list. It feels like only a matter of time before it happens.

The Angels are constrained by circumstances at the moment. They're probably going to have to use Matt Palmer at least once or twice in Pineiro's place and they're not enthused about a rotation with both Palmer and Trevor Bell in it. Prospect Tyler Chatwood could be in the rotation this season, but not in April.

That means Kazmir is here to stay, at least for now.
