Mike Scioscia talks about do-overs

Manager Mike Sciocia, on with Mason & Ireland before the first of the Angels’ four-game series with the Mariners, talked about do-overs after Sunday’s loss to the Rangers.

Jered Weaver, pitching on three days’ rest, gave up seven runs and eight hits while pitching into the seventh inning. Still, Scioscia said the Angels were confident sticking with Weaver into the seventh, hoping he could put the bullpen on solid footing to close the game.

“We knew it was going to be a short leash when he started the seventh and unfortunately  it took about three or four pitches and then we were swimming upstream,” Scioscia said. “Not knowing how it would turn out, I would do exactly the same thing.”

Scioscia also said the Angels, who got caught stealing twice in the first three innings Sunday, would continue to be aggressive on the bases.

“If you look at our offense and the depth of our lineup, if we just play batter’s box offense right now, we’re gonna have a tough time getting the continuity we need. … We have team speed and we’re going to use it to pressure other clubs.”
